I built this with my 6 year old nephew and he blew me out of the water. I really just had to sit back and read directions and he put it together.

This toy was pretty simple to assemble but isn’t the best quality.
The motor was defective we discovered and was a disappointment.

This kit makes a great gift idea for any youngster. They can learn as they play, which is always a plus.
The price is certainly reasonable as well. Highly recommended!

This is a good project to introduce your child to engineering. It’s not particularly hard, just takes a bit of time and attention to detail. It’s a good way to get the kids away from a TV for a little while.

This is a fun robot building kit. Do note that the kit contains many small pieces, so a younger child will require significant assistance to build the robot. The kit is a great STEM project to ward off the summer blues while school is out. Overall, we would recommend this solar robot kit.

This kit reminds me of white washing a fence in Tom Sawyer. The kit is fun to put together but the pieces aren’t exactly perfect. The black bottom cover made it so the gears couldn’t turn when it was all the way on. When I tried to take it off to inspect, two of the four posts broke off. It still went back together ok and the gears worked after determining it was already assembled according to instructions.

The instructions say to bend the battery tabs out, but they need to be bent in to be under the cover. This will become apparent as you go through the steps. The instructions are pretty good overall, just flip the book on the staples to put English in the standard position for western readers.

The rover works well under full sun or on the single AA battery. It doesn’t have much traction as only one axle turns. I was surprised at the amount of speed the tiny solar panel can give it.

The kids decided that it fits in with our Wall-E robot and gave it a home on the shelf next to him.

Due to the potential for small parts to fall off of this guy, you can’t leave zero to maybe 3 years alone with it. Other than that it’s a simple way to demonstrate solar power.

I really wanted to like this piece. It was a bit frustrating to put together and more pieces to assemble than I was expecting. Some were small and frail and easily broken. This works better when there is an adult available for the process. Mine works better with battery rather than the solar panels which is unfortunate because the reason we bought it was for the solar.

It took my 6 yr old and myself about 3o minutes or so to put this guy together. This biggest issue we ran into was that the solar panel wires are hooked up backwards. The red/positive lead is connected to the negative of the solar panel and the black/negative lead is connected to the positive terminal of the solar panel. Then makes it run in a different direction than when it is powered by a battery. Would be nice if there was an angled mount the panel could go onto so it can be adjusted while being used versus just being flat and facing straight up.

my son really didn’t pay attention to it but it seems like a great gift for someone maybe a bit older. he usually loves building animatronics but this one seemed to miss his radar. I would definitely recommend it as a gift.

My son has a lot of interest in robotics and circuit technology. Many of the other STEM robots have been too complicated for him and me to build. When I saw this solar powered robot I knew this was something he could build.

With some assistance we built it in about 30 mins. My son was thrilled with his new solar bot.

This is perfect for robotics beginners and it is great for a budding engineer. Brilliant product.

Unfortunately I received a dud. I highly recommend you test out the motor by connecting it using a battery before you start assembling the entire thing. It was a huge disappointment when we finished and it didn’t work. It didn’t work with battery or solar.

Also, some of the pieces are very delicate. Trying to detach them breaks them. We ended up breaking 2 pieces, but were still able to put it all together.

Cool concept but need better quality testers.

Thsi solar robot is nice enough and my starter than me kiddo was able to put together quickly and easily. I think it would also be a good gift for another elementary aged kiddo but it isn’t the sturdiest in terms of construction. I would not recommend it to a true beginnger though, it was a little complicated to put together and not the easiest directions.

I would get this solar powered robotic toy again for my engirneering minded kiddo but I would be careful getting it for a true beginner.

I enjoyed every bit of building this Rover with my kiddo. I helped remove pieces and shaved down the parts where it was attached to the grid, but she was able to put 95% of it together. I barely touched the assembly. The great thing about this is teaching them the purpose of the Rover.

For the nitty gritty things
• Item came in a brown box, but the art here shows a colorful box. I was disappointed in that.
• Instruction text wasn’t clear, but the images did help and proved to be useful.
• One detail my kiddo pointed out was in the instructions. The sticker portion had a lazy designer who mirrored half of item. So words were backwards, which confused her.
• If you put a battery in and it barely moves, make sure to adjust the wheels. They might be off which would cause too much resistance. IT should move pretty fast

Other than that, it was a great find and even better to share the time and build it with my kid.

We heavily limit our 10 year old on his screen time, but he struggles to find alternatives. He’s been interested in Legos, but they don’t always hold his attention. He’s shown some interest in engineering and building, so I thought this would be a fun challenge for him.

I challenged him to build this unit with ZERO help from an adult. Any road blocks he ran into, he had to figure out. If he ran into anything tight or difficult, he had to determine what tool would help him. After negotiation of what he’s win if he was able to do it, he was off and running.

It took him about two hours to complete the build. We threw in a set of batteries and in his moment to prove that he did it….. Failure, no motion. Credit to him, he went into troubleshooting mode, and found a few steps he missed and did wrong. After 30 minutes, he tried again and voila! He was so proud of himself!

This is a great challenge for your kid. Age on the box says 8+, but an 8 year old will need a good amount of help.

The “toy” itself isn’t particularly fun or unique, but it’s the build that we found the real value.

For that alone, it’s great value and definitely worth a buy

These toys are very good for building, for kids that have autism especially that love building things with their hands.

My husband worked in the space program in the early days, so getting this for our 11 year old nephew was perfect. It’s an easy and educational build. You can use an AA battery, not included, to power it when sun is in short supply. I recommend, find yourself some info about the rover on the NASA science web site to add to the fun of this enjoyable build.

My grandson absolutely loves to build kits of any kind and he is really good at it. Some of his favorites are ones that actually do something when they are done and he especially likes self-powered ones like this solar kit.
This is not the most difficult or most extensive kit he has done but he liked it because all the parts are easy to identify and are well laid out on the boards. The directions were fine and he had it finished in a fairly short time.
It looks cool when finished and worked great.
The price is very reasonable for the knowledge and entertainment you get from it. Great as a gift.

The solar robot was fun to build and the directions were clear enough to get it done. It works with either battery or solar power. However, despite following the directions, mine didn’t like to move too well. I think I will have to remove some parts and adjust the gears, but don’t let that scare you away because when it was working, it was awesome. My toddler enjoyed helping and liked to chase it around with a flashlight.

This toy took some time to assemble but it was a fun process to do with the child and the reward was seeing how it came to life and how excited he was about it. Instructions are easy to follow and at the end of this time consuming project, you have a child who is super proud of his work and a toy that he can continue to play with.

I’m an old-school lover of the space program, and the Mars Rover has always been a combination of fascinations for me. A scientific exploration platform that is remote controlled across great distances and in essence helps to bring Mars a little closer to home. So, finding this Mars Rover STEM set was a pleasant surprise.

There aren’t a great many parts, and no painting is required. Just roughly an hour of cutting some parts from a sprue or two and following the easy-to-read instruction manual, and the kit is finished, and looking nice.

What’s intriguing about it is how incredibly simple the electronics are, involving a standard rotary motor, a gear that you install to the motor, a switch mechanism and leads that go to the optional battery compartment. I say optional because the Rover can either be powered by an on-board battery (Sze “AA”, not included) or you can switch to “Solar Powered”. As of yet the solar power hasn’t kicked in, but it’s Western New York and sunlight is at a premium this time of year.

I love the simplicity and the attention to the overall look that went into this. You should find it a rewarding and pleasantly gentle experience.
