November 9, 2024This little train set is a lot of fun. I ordered this for my 6-year-old grandson to play with. He got it out and put the whole thing together all by himself. He spent A LOT of time playing with this and building the train station with his magnet tiles. Great for the imagination and much better than staring at screens. The “steam” feature is one of the neatest things about it. It blows steam out the top while moving and out of the sides as well when stopping or anytime the horn is blown from the remote control. There is no speed control from the remote, but the train does that all by itself; it starts out slowly, with synchronized chugging sounds and steam puffs, and gradually speeds up until it reaches full speed. The passenger car looks very cool all lit up. There is a button on the side of the car to turn the lights on/off to save battery power. It would have been nice if it would have come with a second battery pack, as it takes a while to re-charge the battery. During normal play (starts/stops), I think it will last about an hour. I did not time a continuous run time. I did find a couple of smaller batteries from some RC cars I have with the same voltage and connector that worked just fine, so it would be a good idea to try to order a backup. Nice little set overall for the price.

November 8, 2024This is a great little train! I’m setting up mine as part of a miniature Christmas village, and this train makes the little town come alive. Best results are when the lights are dimmed. The engine has a bright light in front, rings bells, & whistles [on its own], steam comes out, the engine sounds are perfect and realistic. The passenger car even lights up when you turn it on. I’m in my 60s & my adult daughter helped set it up, which we really enjoyed. The largest setup is seven feet long & three feet wide – it takes up a LOT of space. The directions show you can also form an oval or round track shape, which I didn’t think would work with the size of the passenger car and engine, but they have articulated wheels, enabling the train to make the tight corners. I put a square foam piece, about 1 1/2″ high under the crossroads, to see if the engine could handle a little hill, and it did. So fun. I do wish there were drawings or instructions for other layouts that work, as well as the overall sizes. Connecting the tracks is simple, and on both sides of the track you need to add the provided caps, to ensure the tracks are together tightly, and are a good addition. However, taking the large layout apart, to attempt to create other shapes/sizes, those little caps all have to come off, and are easy to lose. I think this is a great train for the price, especially a good entry-level train set, without the high-end hobby train costs, to find out if the next level of train systems are worth the fun. This isn’t for most kids under eight, to do alone, but it’s more fun to play with when two or more are involved, anyway. It requires charging a provided battery via USB, you’ll need two AA batteries to supply & install, and the little squeeze bottle that comes with the set is worthless, so I used a small funnel to add the water. I’d also recommend you use distilled water, just in case, because the steam feature is definitely a big part of the fun. [Wish I could buy more track!] Go for it!

November 6, 2024I’ve always wanted a train set going around under my Christmas tree and this is a great train set. Assembling the tracks and connecting the cars were easy. I just did a circle track to see how big it would be and to see if the trains worked. It’s big enough to use under my tree and the lights and steam on the cars functioned fine. There are enough track parts to make a big oval, a figure 8, or to divert to other tracks. Recommended.

November 5, 2024I must mention that this toy train is cute. It has several fun features. For instance, when commanded to start, it not only rings a bell and emits steam from the piston area but also begins its journey at a slow pace, gradually accelerating. The accompanying locomotive steam engine sound effects are synchronized with its speed, producing a puff of steam with each engine chug.
The railroad track was simple to assemble, including four switch tracks that enable the creation of a large oval with a double crossover in the middle. These switch tracks are manipulated using a small lever, and the transition from one track to another is seamless.
The locomotive and the subsequent two cars are electrically connected. The Coal Car houses the rechargeable battery, which requires unscrewing a small screw to remove for recharging—a task too challenging for children aged three to seven.
The remote control, designed with train wheels, can be affixed to the train. I chose not to attach it as I wanted to test its functionality independently. I can report that the train responded perfectly to the remote control’s commands.
However, connecting the cars, managing the electrical wire, and aligning the wheels on the track proved somewhat tricky. This might be too complex for a young child to manage alone.
Both the remote control and the Coal Car have an On and Off switches. I encountered some difficulty activating the switch on the Coal Car; turning it off was worked, but turning it on required an additional pull back when in the On position. Again, this could be challenging for a young child.
In summary, while the train is very cute, it does present a few minor issues. I would suggest reevaluating the recommended age range unless an older individual is actively involved.

November 1, 2024This is a nice set, but is all plastic. I would not say heavy enough duty for everyday child play. But excellent for occasional use and makes a great holiday touch and family fun. Track is easy to put together, nice detailing on the train set.

What surprises me the most is its level of realism—it makes sounds that simulate a real train when it starts up, and it even produces steam to mimic smoke in sync with its running rhythm and sound effects! My nephew and niece are definitely going to love this train set!
